Our Ingredients

At Jo Malone London, we pride ourselves on using quality ingredients in our fragrance creation, finding the perfect balance of notes to create the simple, elegant scents we are known for. Discover more about their origins below.

Natural Pear Fruit Extract

Sourced from pear orchards in late summer. An innovative ingredient from the food industry utilising an upcycled extraction process. Natural fruits are unusual in perfumery as the high-water content makes it difficult to obtain a fragrant extract.

Pears are steamed for pear juice, creating a by-product of pear water that would otherwise be wasted. This fragrant pear water is upcycled and concentrated, becoming a new extract that captures the vibrant freshness of this natural fruit, resulting in one pear in every bottle of our English Pear colognes.

A Jo Malone London-exclusive ingredient.

Features in English Pear & Freesia and English Pear & Sweet Pea colognes.

Natural Blackcurrant Extract

Locally produced and sourced from blackcurrant fields in Scotland. An innovative ingredient from the food industry utilising an upcycled extraction process. Natural fruits are unusual in perfumery, as the high-water content makes it difficult to obtain a fragrant extract.

Blackcurrants are steamed and distilled to make jam, creating a by-product of blackcurrant water that would otherwise be wasted. This fragrant blackcurrant water is condensed, becoming a new extract that captures the tart juiciness of this natural fruit.

Natural Myrrh Resin

Sourced from the Omumbiri tree in the Namib desert with a responsible harvest and traceable supply chain that provide financial support to the local community. The tree is preserved as only the myrrh resin is collected, leaving the tree intact.

Sap forms on the tree and dries under the sun. This produces myrrh resin which is harvested and extracted to create a resinoid that is a warm and balmy with an ambery sensuality.

Features in Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense, body & hand wash, body crème, Travel Candle, Home Candle, Deluxe Candle, diffuser and room spray.

Natural Vanilla Bourbon

Sourced from vanilla orchid vines in Madagascar using a traceable supply chain with good agricultural practices, providing local growers with training and financial support.

After pollination, vanilla orchids produce vanilla beans which are cured in the sun – an elaborate process resulting in a vanilla bean extract with a rich, sensual, gourmand aroma.

Features in Jasmine Sambac & Marigold Cologne Intense, Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense and Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Cologne Intense.

Natural Vetiver Bourbon

Sourced from coastal vetiver fields in Madagascar, with a responsible harvest and traceable supply chain that supports the local community.

Tall vetiver grass is nurtured by local farmers. Its roots are drawn from the soil, sun dried for optimum quality and distilled, producing an essential oil with earthy depth and elegant, woody warmth.

Features in Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Cologne Intense and Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense, body & hand wash, body crème, diffuser and room spray.

Honeysuckle Headspace

Captured at dusk in the Cotswolds, England, using headspace technology. A way to obtain ingredients that are not available naturally and cannot be extracted as they are too fragile or endangered. This process protects the plants and creates new ingredients.

The honeysuckle flower is placed in a glass bowl, isolating the aroma present in the air to preserve olfactive molecules – like taking a photograph of the scent. The air is analysed by technical perfumers who recreate the natural scented moment, resulting in a radiant floral note with alluring honeyed accents.

Features in Honeysuckle & Davana and English Pear & Sweet Pea colognes.
